My Rough Draft of My Very First Book is Complete
For the past few years, writing has consumed my life. Being a creative writing minor at school currently, I always knew that writing would be something I'd want to pursue, especially if my plans to become a makeup artist in the entertainment industry end up falling down the pike. I've put my writing skills to practice writing scripts for my YouTube channel, but I always knew deep down that I wanted to try for something more. From the time I was a freshman in high school, I was writing amateur books on my old PC, but as my skills grew more refined through semesters of taking various writing classes, I dove in deep and last fall, I went for it when I was in an advanced creative writing course.
After months of being a fiction writing class, this past summer, I went back to writing my first rough draft. And by the time August came around, I finished the entire first draft of the book. And so far, I've gone through at least two different passes of my own, editing, rereading, rewriting, until finally, I was pleased with what I've done.
But even so, I don't think I'll ever be fully pleased until I know that this book is going to have potential, that it'll garner an audience. My aspirations right now are to get with a company like Little Brown and Co. or even Scholastic, which are two publishing companies that worked to put some of my favorite series on my own bookshelves at Barnes and Noble.
At this point, I think that the book is ready for publishing. And I plan upon sending it to a literary agent very soon so that way, I can see if they think it'll have the potential to sell. More than anything, I'd love to see this book make the NY Times Best Seller's list, and I'd love to plan sequels to take place after it and make it into a three-part series, a saga, and something that I can give to my two-year-old and six-year-old cousins and have them read it one day and say, "Wow, my cousin did that!"
Overall, I am excited for what this development means for me, and I am looking forward to the future that this book will bring me.
